£3,000,000.00 settlement for a young lady who was injured in a road traffic collision back in September 2015. The police took no action against the driver and the family were initially told by others that ‘there was nothing in it’.
On receipt of the police collision report and review of the statement of the driver, in particular, it was considered that there was a case to investigate.
The client suffered a significant traumatic brain injury in addition to orthopaedic injuries. As liability was firmly denied by the Defendant the matter was proceeding to a liability only trial in the first instance.
However during a remote joint settlement meeting on 18 June 2020, led by Simeon Maskrey QC from 7BR Chambers, a settlement, subject to Court approval, of £3,000,000.00 was reached.
This sum was subsequently approved by Her Honour Judge Coe QC at a remote teams Approval hearing on 17 November 2020.
The settlement will greatly assist the client and a Personal Injury Trust has been set up with the assistance of the Private Client team to manage the sum going forward, that will provide for the claimant for the rest of her life. This will include purchase and adaptation of a property.
