Matthew is a Charted Legal Executive in the Commercial Division specialising in personal injury trusts and Court of Protection work. He began his employment at SJP Law in 2017. He has eleven years of legal experience.

He can advise on the broader issues that affect people who lack capacity or have a received a payment of compensation from personal injury or medical negligence. Matthew’s experience includes advising clients on the set up and management of trusts to manage compensation awards, applications to the Court of Protection for a variety of issues, preparing Lasting Powers of Attorney (LPAs), matters concerning the employment of care staff, welfare benefits, statutory support such as local authority direct payments and NHS continuing health care. Matthew enjoys meeting with clients face to face to help build long lasting relationships and strives to provide practical solutions for the everyday legal issues that clients face.

Matthew has worked with clients from across the country, facing a range of different issues from acquired brain injuries, capacity and mental health issues, cerebral palsy, industrial disease including mesothelioma, and dementia to name a few, and worked with clients of all ages and with a range of backgrounds including those injured in the Armed Forces.

Areas of interest

Matthew has experience in dealing with personal injury and compensation protection trusts, deputyships and Court of Protection applications, independent user trusts, wills, powers of attorney and trust administration.

Work cases

  • Ongoing advice to trustees responsible for compensation awards typically in excess of £1million;
  • Recently completed a review for a personal injury trust client and their immediate family, to advise on their wills, trust arrangements and LPAs. SJP have successfully administered this client’s trust for nearly 30 years.

Matthew is very helpful and is always there for us if we have any questions to ask about the Trust set up for our daughter and we have been very happy with the service provided by SJP Law over the years since they helped us with our compensation case.
