There will be much discussion during 2017 surrounding energy performance certificates (EPCs) and  the changes due April 2018, when minimum energy efficiency requirements will apply to both domestic and non-domestic properties in respect of both new and renewal tenancies.

There are wide reaching implications here which will not only impact on the granting of tenancies, but also in dealing with alterations carried out during the term of the tenancy.

Given the costs involved, attention will undoubtedly be given to the permitted exemptions, and the likely method of enforcement, particularly in the months following the introduction of the changes.
